Ductless Mini Split Installation Across Nassau & Suffolk County

Ductless mini split systems are the ideal solution for Long Island homes where traditional ductwork is impractical, inefficient, or simply does not exist. Whether you have converted an attic into a bedroom, added a sunroom, finished a basement, or live in an older home that was never designed for central air, a mini split delivers precise heating and cooling directly to the space that needs it.

Island Comfort HVAC has installed hundreds of ductless mini split systems across Nassau and Suffolk County since 2012. We are authorized installers for Mitsubishi Electric, the industry leader in ductless technology, as well as Carrier and Daikin. Our technicians hold specific manufacturer training certifications for each brand we install.

HVAC equipment and installation

A mini split system consists of an outdoor condenser unit connected to one or more indoor air-handling units by a small conduit that carries refrigerant lines, a condensate drain, and control wiring. The conduit requires only a 3-inch hole through your exterior wall, which means no demolition, no extensive construction, and minimal disruption to your home. Most single-zone installations are completed in 4 to 6 hours.

One of the biggest advantages of mini splits on Long Island is zone control. A multi-zone system allows you to set different temperatures in different rooms. Keep the master bedroom at 68 degrees while the living room stays at 72 degrees. Shut off cooling in rooms you are not using. This level of control is impossible with a single-thermostat central AC system and leads to significant energy savings.

Mitsubishi’s hyper-heating technology allows mini splits to deliver full-capacity heat even when outdoor temperatures drop to -13 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes them a viable primary heating source for Long Island, not just a supplemental cooling solution. Combined with their cooling capability, a single mini split system handles year-round comfort.

Mini splits also deliver exceptional energy efficiency. A typical Mitsubishi MSZ-FH wall-mounted unit achieves a SEER2 rating of 28 or higher, compared to 14 to 16 SEER2 for a standard central AC system. Combined with the elimination of duct losses (which waste 20% to 30% of conditioned air in many homes), a mini split can cut your energy consumption significantly.

What Long Island Homeowners Say

James came out the same day we called. Diagnosed the issue in 20 minutes, had our AC back running within the hour. His crew installed our whole system four years ago and it has been flawless. Cannot recommend enough.

Karen T.Massapequa

We got four quotes for central air. Island Comfort was the only company that showed up on time, explained every option without pressure, and gave us a written quote the same visit. System runs perfectly. Fair price.

Mike & Jessica R.Hicksville

Our furnace died on the coldest night in January. James had a tech at our house by 9 PM and we had heat back by midnight. They did not gouge us on the emergency call either. Ended up replacing the whole furnace the following week. Professional start to finish.

FAQ

Common Mini Split Installation Questions

How many rooms can one mini split system cover?

A single outdoor condenser can support up to 5 indoor units in most Mitsubishi and Carrier configurations, and up to 8 indoor units with Mitsubishi’s CITY MULTI systems. Each indoor unit is independently controlled for true zone comfort.

Can a mini split replace my furnace and AC?

Yes. A multi-zone mini split system with hyper-heating technology can serve as a whole-home heating and cooling system. Many Long Island homeowners are replacing aging furnace and AC combos with multi-zone mini splits for better efficiency and zone control.

How loud are mini splits?

Indoor units operate at 19 to 32 decibels depending on fan speed. For reference, a whisper is about 30 decibels. You will not hear the unit running at low speed. Outdoor units are also significantly quieter than traditional AC condensers.

Where should the indoor unit be mounted?

The most common mounting position is high on a wall, typically 6 to 8 inches below the ceiling. This allows conditioned air to distribute evenly across the room. Ceiling cassette and floor-mount options are also available for rooms where wall mounting is not ideal.

Do mini splits work in cold weather on Long Island?

Yes. Mitsubishi hyper-heating units deliver full heating capacity down to -13 degrees Fahrenheit. Standard mini splits begin losing capacity below 20 degrees. For Long Island’s climate, we recommend hyper-heating models if the mini split will be your primary heat source.

How much maintenance does a mini split require?

Mini splits require filter cleaning every 4 to 6 weeks (the filters slide out and rinse under water) and a professional tune-up once per year. We also recommend a deep coil cleaning every 2 to 3 years to prevent mold and bacteria buildup in the indoor unit.
